Strawberry ice cream has always been my favorite summer dessert. Especially when it’s rich and creamy! It’s so refreshing and indulging that hits the spot every time! Strawberry ice cream reminds me so much of my childhood. Growing up in Cyprus with 300 days of sunshine a year, loving ice cream was pretty much inevitable! It’s part of the island’s culture. Countless flavors sold at every corner.

Veganism is just now starting to grow in Cyprus so there are still not many vegan options available, except for some sorbet flavors, and that is a big bummer! Having said that, the vegan movement is starting to catch up quick and I’m sure that since Cyprus is a very popular tourist destination, the vegan market will soon skyrocket!

In the meantime, there is no reason not to give homemade creamy vegan strawberry ice cream a shot! It’s just so simple to make and the results will amaze you. And yeah, you guessed it, kids will absolutely fall in love with this recipe!

Homemade Creamy Vegan Strawberry Ice Cream Recipe

So, as I mentioned above, this homemade creamy vegan strawberry ice cream recipe is super easy to make and the best part is it only requires 3 main ingredients!

My mum bought me an ice cream maker as a present ages ago and this is the first time I’ve used it. I really didn’t expect the end result to be this great! I will leave links to a few ice cream makers below but there is also way to make creamy ice cream without one.

Even though the consistency and texture will not be as smooth as when you are using an ice cream maker, adding a tablespoon of alcohol to your ice cream mixture before placing it in the freezer will allow you to avoid the dreaded crystallization and achieve a creamier result!

There are many affordable ice cream makers out there like this super stylish Andrew James Ice Cream Maker which was voted ‘Best Buy’ by Which? magazine. If you don’t want to spend a fortune, this is definitely a fantastic product that will get the job done!

Ice cream maker I too used an Andrew James product but it was rather pricey. As I told you earlier, my mother got it for me as a present so I didn’t have to worry about the money. But if you have a bigger budget, it’s definitely worth the splurge! This Andrew James Ice Cream Maker With Built In Compressor simply and utterly unties your hands! It was so easy to use that I felt I didn’t really have to do anything! You just pop the mixture in and voila, delicious ice cream in just one hour! 

But again! Don’t feel like you need to own an ice cream maker to make homemade ice cream! These are just suggestions. You can surely make deliciously creamy homemade vegan ice cream without the use of an ice cream maker. Just make use of the tip I gave you above!

Now to the recipe!

Ingredients (8 servings):

  • 400 ml full fat coconut milk or preferably coconut cream ( If you are not using an ice cream maker, the coconut cream will work much better as it will create a creamier texture)
  • 200 g strawberries, fresh or frozen ( You can also use other fruit like raspberries or mango!)
  • 2-3 tablespoons agave syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • vegan chocolate chips ( optional)


If you are not using an ice cream maker:

  • Add all your ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Add a tiny bit of alcohol of your choice to the mixture and stir. This is optional but it will definitely help you avoid crystallization.
  • Place in a container and directly into the freezer. It should be ready for consumption in about 4-5 hours.

If you are using an ice cream maker:

  • If you are using a regular ice cream maker you need to put your ice cream churning bowl in the freezer at least 24 hours prior to making the ice cream. If the freezer bowl is not cold enough, your ice cream is never going to freeze! After your freezer bowl is ready, just place it back into the ice cream maker, add your ice cream mixture and wait for it to be ready. The amount of time required will vary depending on what ice cream maker you are using so make sure to follow the instructions.
  • If you are using an ice cream maker with a built in compressor, the above process is totally omitted. After you have prepared your ice cream mixture, just add it to the ice cream maker and let it do it’s job. It’s that simple!

So that’s it guys! Homemade, super creamy vegan strawberry ice cream! You can serve it with coconut whipped cream or fresh fruit. It’s the perfect summer treat!
